Sergeant Mallory, Vale's weary but loyal partner, entered the office. "Another stiff, Vale? This city's bleedin' dry." Vale barely glanced up from the photo.

The victim, a prominent businessman named Thorne, was found dead in an alley, a single gunshot wound to the chest. No forced entry, no signs of struggle. A clean hit. Too clean. "The boys downtown are calling it an open and shut case," Mallory sighed. "Mob hit."

Vale ran a hand through his hair, a muscle twitching in his jaw. "Thorne was involved in some shady deals, I'll grant you that.

Mallory sighed. "You got a hunch, Alistair? Or are you just seeing ghosts again?" Vale ignored the jibe, his mind already racing.

Suddenly, Madame Evangeline gasped, her eyes snapping open, wide with fear. "The Obsidian Mirror! It reflects more than just images, Inspector. It reflects the shadows of souls!" Vale's blood ran cold. The Obsidian Mirror... a mythical artifact said to reveal the truth behind any deception.

Vale knew the risks. The Obsidian Mirror was dangerous, capable of driving men mad with the truths it revealed. But he was desperate.

The figure lunged, a knife flashing in the dim light. Vale dodged the attack, firing a shot that echoed through the archives. The shadowy figure staggered back, clutching his arm. "You can't stop me, Inspector! The truth must remain hidden!"

Vale pressed his advantage, disarming the shadowy figure with a swift kick. He grabbed the figure by the collar, pulling him into the light. "Who are you?

With the shadowy figure subdued, Vale turned his attention to the Obsidian Mirror. It stood on a pedestal, its surface shimmering with an unnatural darkness.
