"Echo, are you sure about this shortcut?" Pip squeaked, his voice bouncing off the glittering walls. Echo, a small lion with a tuft of golden mane, grinned. "Of course! My grandpa used to say it leads straight to the Roar-Off tryouts. Besides," she added, kicking a sparkling pebble, "who wants to take the boring old tunnel?"

Pip stumbled, nearly dropping a small, tarnished horn he carried. "Careful!" he cried. "This is my lucky Practice Horn! It's been in my family for generations, and I was hoping it would help me finally have a loud roar like you!" Echo stopped. "A Practice Horn? My grandpa told me about those! Legends say they amplify even the tiniest squeak!"

"Alright, let's do it!" Echo declared, puffing out her chest. Pip looked doubtful. "But what if it doesn't work? I'll never make the Roar-Off team!" Echo placed a paw on Pip's shoulder. "'The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,' as the great philosopher Lao Tzu said. You have to start somewhere, Pip! Now, blow that horn!"

Pip took a deep breath and blew into the horn. A tiny 'peep' escaped. "See?" he whimpered. Suddenly, a large crystal slammed down from the ceiling, blocking their path! "Oh no!" Echo exclaimed. "That must be one of the cave's echo traps! It only triggers when someone makes a sound at the wrong frequency!"
Page 5

"Wrong frequency? What does that even mean?" Pip asked, bewildered. Echo tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Well, my Grandpa told me that certain crystals in this cave resonate with different sound frequencies. Blow the wrong note, and wham, the trap is sprung! Look!" She pointed to a faint etching on the crystal blocking their path. "A musical note!"

Pip tried again, blowing different notes into the horn. Each time, the cave rumbled and more crystals threatened to fall. "It's no use! I can't find the right frequency!" he cried, tears welling up in his eyes. "We're trapped, and I'll never get to the Roar-Off!" Echo, seeing Pip's despair, felt a surge of determination. "We have to try something different!"

"Remember what Grandpa said about the Practice Horn?" Echo asked suddenly. "It amplifies even the tiniest squeak! But maybe... maybe it can also find the right frequency! Pip, hold the horn, but I'll try to roar into it!" Pip looked up, hope flickering in his eyes. "You think that will work?"

Echo took a deep breath and roared into the horn. At first, only a muffled sound came out. Then, as she adjusted her roar, the horn began to hum. The etching on the fallen crystal began to glow! It was working! She roared louder, matching the glowing note. "Now!" Echo cried. This is it!

With a final, earth-shattering roar, the crystal blocking their path shattered into a million pieces! "We did it!" Pip squealed, jumping for joy. Echo grinned. "It wasn't just me, Pip. It was your horn and your determination that got us through! See, practice makes perfect!"

"I guess you're right, Echo," Pip said, holding the Practice Horn close. "Maybe I don't need to be the loudest to be part of the team." Echo nudged him playfully. "Exactly! You've got other talents, Pip! Like, um...holding horns really well! Now, let's go show them what we've got!" They dashed towards the Roar-Off tryouts.
