Linnea rushed to her room, her braids bouncing. She pulled a large, leather-bound book from her shelf—the 'Wonder Inventions Encyclopedia.' It began to glow with a soft, warm light as she opened it. "Let's see...electric motors," she muttered, her fingers tracing the ancient script. Suddenly, the room began to swirl, and the world outside her window dissolved into a kaleidoscope of colors.

A young boy nearby looked up and frowned. "It looks like someone has the wrong invention manual," he said softly to the man.

"This is 1888, New York City. I'm Nikola Tesla, and I'm trying to invent something that will change the world!" Tesla exclaimed, wiping grease from his hands.

I believe I can change the world for the better." Linnea's eyes widened. "Alternating current? But...what's wrong with direct current?"

"Direct current can only travel short distances, making it inefficient for powering entire cities," Tesla explained, pointing to a diagram.
"Direct current can only travel short distances, making it inefficient for powering entire cities," Tesla explained, pointing to a diagram. "With alternating current, we can transmit electricity over long distances! Imagine, powering entire nations!" He gestured dramatically, almost knocking over a glass jar filled with wires. He continued, "And it's far more efficient."

"But it hasn't been easy," Tesla sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I've faced many setbacks. People laughed at my ideas, said it couldn't be done.

George Westinghouse believed in me, though, so I will keep trying." He picks up a broken coil. "The prototype motor is a frustrating thing to work on, but I believe the results will be worth it."

"Mr. Tesla, I read in a book that..." Linnea began, flipping through her notebook, "...that using a capacitor can improve efficiency in AC circuits.

"A capacitor? That's...ingenious! Why didn't I think of that?" He dashed to his workbench, grabbing a capacitor. "Sometimes, the smallest ideas can make the biggest difference!"

Days turned into weeks, filled with furious experimentation. Finally, Tesla threw his hands up in the air and shouted. "Eureka! It works!

The motor whirred to life, powering a small lightbulb. "As Leonardo da Vinci said, 'Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer.' A moment's peace made me realize exactly what I needed to do to have a breakthrough!"

Linnea burst into the living room. "Ivana, Moana, guess what I learned!" she exclaimed. "The alternating current motor powers nearly everything we use today! From our fans to our phones, it's all thanks to Nikola Tesla's invention! Today, the electric motor industry generates revenue in the billions of dollars per year, all thanks to this one invention. And it all started with a simple desire to send electrical power over long distances!"
