Leon sighed, watching snowflakes swirl outside his window. He lived in a kingdom encased inside a giant snow globe, a place both beautiful and a little... small. "Pass the salt, please," his mom called from across the table. Leon nudged the shaker over to her, then leaned back, a thought suddenly striking him: "Mom, wait—who even invented this?"

Leon's mom chuckled. "That's a good question, sweetie!" Leon leaped from his chair and dashed to his room, his worn leather notebook clutched in his hand. He scrambled toward his bookshelf and pulled out a large, leather-bound book that seemed to glow faintly: his Magical Invention Encyclopedia. "I'm going to find out!"

As he opened the Encyclopedia, the room dissolved into swirling colors and light. Leon gripped the book tightly, his heart pounding. He braced himself for another journey into the past. 'Well,' Leon thought to himself, remembering something his grandmother Ivana always said, 'As Mark Twain said, 'The secret of getting ahead is getting started.''

Leon landed with a thump on cobblestone streets. He was in Lyon, France, but it wasn't covered in snow! "Whoa!" he exclaimed, looking around. A woman selling flowers stopped and stared at him in surprise. "Pardon, monsieur," Leon said, trying to sound polite. "What year is it?"

"1895, little one," the flower woman replied, looking at Leon strangely. Just then, a man rushed past, shouting, "The Lumière Brothers are showing their new invention again!" Leon's eyes widened. "The Lumière Brothers? That's it! The movie camera! I've got to see this!"

Leon followed the crowd to a small building, pushing his way inside. A large screen dominated the front of the room. He overheard someone say, "They call it the Cinématographe!" People chattered excitedly, waiting for the show to begin. Leon craned his neck to get a better view.

Suddenly, the screen flickered to life! Leon gasped as he watched moving images of a train pulling into a station. A woman behind him cried out in surprise. Afterwards, Leon caught up to two men packing equipment. "Excuse me," he said. "Are you the Lumière Brothers?"

One of the men, who introduced himself as Louis Lumière, smiled. "Indeed, young man. And this is my brother, Auguste." Leon pulled out his notebook. "How did you do it? It's amazing!" Louis explained, "It uses a mechanism inspired by sewing machines. We record images at 16 frames per second. Back then, each film was only about 50 seconds long...now it's a billion-dollar industry!"

Auguste added, "We showed our films commercially for the first time on December 28, 1895, in Paris. That was the real breakthrough." Leon scribbled furiously in his notebook. "So, you combined a camera, a projector, and a printer into one machine? That's incredible!" Suddenly, the Encyclopedia began to glow. "Uh oh!" Leon exclaimed.

Back in his snow globe kingdom, Leon slammed the Encyclopedia shut. "Wow!" he said to his mom. "The Lumière Brothers practically invented modern cinema! They changed everything!" He grabbed his mom's hand. "Now, can we watch a movie?" he asked, grinning. His mom smiled back. "Of course, sweetie. What about that old film camera you always play with? Maybe you can make a film yourself!"
