"Each of you shall ride to the forest's edge and fire an arrow. Where it lands, there your quest begins," Tsar Nikolai instructed.
"Each of you shall ride to the forest's edge and fire an arrow. Where it lands, there your quest begins," Tsar Nikolai instructed. Dmitri's arrow soared far to the east, Vasily's to the west, while Ivan's fell a mere stone's throw away, landing deep within a shadowed thicket. "As Helen Keller once said," Ivan sighed, picking up his arrow, "'Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all'. Looks like adventure chooses me!"

Dismounted, Ivan ventured into the thicket, where a pair of gleaming eyes watched him from the shadows. A great gray wolf stepped into the moonlight, its fur the color of twilight. "Fear not, Prince Ivan," the wolf spoke, its voice like the rustling of leaves. "I will help you find what you seek, for your path is entwined with mine."

The Gray Wolf, ever loyal, led Ivan to the diamond horse. "This time, heed my words! The bridle is of gold, but take only the horse," he cautioned.
The Gray Wolf, ever loyal, led Ivan to the diamond horse. "This time, heed my words! The bridle is of gold, but take only the horse," he cautioned. Again, Ivan hesitated, the glint of gold too tempting. "You are testing my patience, Prince," the wolf said, his voice low. "Remember what Mark Twain said: 'It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled'. Don't be fooled again!"

I sought treasures, but I found only my own failings." Elena smiled, seeing the change in his heart. Together, with the Gray Wolf, they returned to Tsar Nikolai, not with trophies, but with wisdom. And the kingdom he inherited was far greater than he could have imagined, for it was built not on gold, but on self-knowledge.
