"You know, Kofi, people didn't always have fans or air conditioning. Imagine what summers were like then!" Kofi's eyes widened in fascination. "Wait – how did people survive before? Who even invented the first way to cool down?"

Suddenly, Kofi found himself standing in a bustling courtyard, filled with the sounds of hammering and shouting. He smelled woodsmoke and something else... singed wool? "Where am I?" he muttered, bewildered. A young boy, covered in soot, bumped into him, nearly knocking Kofi's notebook from his grasp. "Watch it!" the boy exclaimed, before running off.

"Bonjour! Are you lost, monsieur?" a friendly voice called out. Kofi turned to see a man with kind eyes and a smudge of charcoal on his cheek. "I'm Joseph Montgolfier, and this is my brother Étienne. We're about to change the world!" Kofi, recognizing the name, gasped. "You're the Montgolfier brothers! The inventors of the hot air balloon!"

Page 5

"That's the plan, anyway!" Étienne chuckled, wiping his brow. "We believe we can lift people into the sky using heated air. We've been experimenting for months." Joseph Montgolfier gestured to a large paper and fabric bag suspended over a fire. "It all started when I saw shirts drying over a fire. The hot air lifted them up!" Kofi pulled out his notebook, scribbling furiously.

Kofi asked, "But how did you know it would be safe?" Joseph replied, "Well, it wasn't always. The first few attempts were... explosive!

As Leonardo da Vinci said, 'Those who are not willing to risk sometimes accomplish nothing'." He chuckled ruefully. "Da Vinci knew a thing or two about invention!"

"It's amazing! But what about flying higher, further?" Kofi asked, his pen flying across the page. Étienne explained, "That's the future.

We hope this will revolutionize travel, communication, maybe even connect countries! Imagine delivering messages across continents in a matter of hours!" Joseph added, "Of course, we needed money to make that happen. King Louis XVI himself sponsored our first manned flight near Paris in 1783."

Suddenly, the ground began to shake! "What's happening?" Kofi cried. The familiar swirling light enveloped him once again.

Back in his room, the glowing light faded, leaving Kofi breathless. He closed his Invention Encyclopedia, the knowledge of the Montgolfier brothers fresh in his mind. He raced back to the living room, bursting with excitement. "Mom, you won't believe what I just saw!"

"The Montgolfier brothers invented the hot air balloon!" Kofi exclaimed. "They proved that humans could fly. Today, the aviation industry generates over 900 billion annually, connecting people across the globe!" Katya smiled, pulling him into a hug. "That's amazing, Kofi! Maybe one day, you'll invent something that changes the world too."
