Merchants loudly called out their wares, donkeys brayed, and the joyful chatter of shoppers filled the bustling square. The porter, with a practiced eye, watched the swirling crowds, seeking a customer who might need his services. His gaze fell upon a lady of extraordinary beauty, whose presence seemed to quiet the surrounding noise for a moment. She wore robes of rich, shimmering silk, and her face, though partly veiled, held a sparkle that drew all eyes. With an elegant stride, she made her way directly towards him through the throng of shoppers and sellers, her purpose clear and her demeanor serene. He wondered what important task she might have for him.

The porter, surprised but eager at such a distinguished customer, quickly hoisted his sturdy basket onto his back. The beautiful lady then led him through the winding, narrow streets of old Baghdad, a maze of whitewashed walls and latticed windows, stopping at many different shops along the way. First, they purchased the finest cuts of meat from a bustling butcher's stall, then fresh, sweet pastries and fruits from a cheerful baker, and finally, rich, fragrant wines and exquisite perfumes from a quiet merchant. With each stop, the porter's woven basket grew heavier and heavier, digging into his shoulders, but the lady paid him generously for his efforts without a single word, simply gesturing for him to follow her onwards. He wondered where they were going and what grand feast or celebration she was preparing, his curiosity growing with every heavy step. Finally, they reached a magnificent, tall wooden gate, adorned with intricate carvings, guarded by a stern doorkeeper who silently admitted them.

One wore robes of shimmering sapphire blue, her dark hair intricately braided, while the other was dressed in rich ruby red, adorned with golden bangles. They greeted him with warm, inviting smiles, and he quickly set about emptying his heavily laden basket, carefully arranging the provisions for them. Soon after, more vendors arrived, displaying precious silks, fine carpets with intricate patterns, and various musical instruments. The three ladies, who were indeed sisters, joyfully purchased everything they desired, their excitement clear as they prepared for a wonderful evening of celebration. The air was filled with happy chatter and the scent of preparing for a joyous occasion.

As the feast continued in joyful spirits, a sudden, unexpected knock came at the grand outer door of the house. Soon after, three one-eyed old men, looking utterly weary from their long travels, their robes dusty and worn, were welcomed into the hall by the First Lady. The ladies, with a sudden shift in their demeanor, treated them with great respect and kindness, offering them food and drink to ease their journey. However, a strange, expectant hush fell over the once-lively room, and the festive mood seemed to dim. The First Lady then spoke with a serious, unyielding voice, her gaze sweeping over the porter and the three old men. She made them all promise, on their sacred honor, that no matter what unusual or bewildering things they might see or hear within the walls of this house, they would never, ever ask any questions about them. Curiosity, she warned them gravely, could lead to great misfortune and sorrow. The porter, though thoroughly puzzled by this strict command, readily agreed, as did the weary old men, their faces etched with newfound caution.

She lifted it high and lightly tapped him on the shoulder. The slave immediately flinched dramatically, letting out a loud, theatrical cry as if in great pain, though no harm was done. Then, to everyone's astonishment, the Lady lovingly embraced him, wiping away his feigned tears.

She gently touched the dog with the switch, and it whimpered softly as part of the performance, then licked her hand. She embraced the dog, too. The porter and the old men watched, utterly bewildered by these strange actions, but remembered their promise.

The strange rituals were too much for the porter's curiosity. He could hold his tongue no longer. "By all that is wondrous!" he burst out, "What is the meaning of this?" The three old men, equally bewildered, quickly joined in with their own confused questions. Immediately, the atmosphere in the hall changed. The three beautiful ladies rose, their faces now stern and furious. With swift movements, they each drew forth a long, beautiful sword, sparkling with jewels.

The three beautiful ladies rose, their faces now stern and furious. With swift movements, they each drew forth a long, beautiful sword, sparkling with jewels. They held them upright, not pointed at anyone, but as a clear and dramatic sign of their grave displeasure. "You have broken your solemn promise!" declared the First Lady, her voice like thunder. The porter and the old men trembled, realizing the danger they were in.

As the porter and the three old men stammered out their apologies, their voices shaking with fear, desperately trying to explain their unbearable curiosity about the house's strange happenings, a truly astonishing event occurred. A section of the richly draped wall in the dining hall, which had seemed solid and unmoving, suddenly swung open with a soft, surprising creak. From behind this hidden recess, stepped none other than the great Caliph Haroun al-Rashid himself, majestic and commanding. He was accompanied by his loyal Vizier, Ja'far, dressed in fine brocades, and a stern, watchful guard. The Caliph had been in disguise the entire evening, secretly listening to every single event and conversation! His face was serious, his eyes keen and observant, taking in the shocked faces before him. Everyone in the room fell utterly silent, struck dumb with shock and awe at the sudden revelation of their ruler. The ladies, instantly recognizing their Caliph, immediately knelt in deep reverence. The Caliph, looking directly at them with an unwavering gaze, demanded to know the true meaning of all the strange things that had transpired in their house this night.

The Third Lady, to everyone's surprise, was the Caliph's own long-lost lady, whom he had believed dead. Their stories were filled with sorrow and surprising twists, explaining all the mysteries of the evening. The Caliph listened with deep compassion, his heart moved by their tales.
