Dev floated near a giant window, his eyes wide with wonder. "Look, Malik!" he exclaimed, pointing towards a swirling nebula painted in candy colors. Malik pushed off a wall, drifting beside him. "Wow! But how do the astronauts work outside in space when it's so...spacey?" Anika, nearby working at a console, overheard them.

"That's a great question!" Anika said, turning from her console. "Their suits need to be completely waterproof and breathable. It's all thanks to Gore-Tex!" Dev's eyes lit up. "Gore-Tex? Who invented that? And how did people survive before it existed?" He grabbed his worn leather notebook, ready to jot down all the details. He ran toward his sleeping quarters to consult his magical Invention Encyclopedia, the words 'Gore-Tex' already swirling in his mind.

Back in his sleeping quarters, Dev opened the Invention Encyclopedia. The room dissolved into a swirling vortex of colors. When the light subsided, he found himself in a muddy field. A farmer struggled to pull a heavy cart through the downpour. "Ugh!" the farmer grumbled, soaked to the bone. "If only there was something that could keep me dry while I worked!"

Suddenly, a man in a lab coat rushed out of a nearby building. "Almost there! Just a few more tests!" he shouted, oblivious to the rain. "Who are you?" Dev asked, approaching the man. "I'm Bob Gore! And I'm trying to create a waterproof fabric that also breathes. It's harder than it sounds!"
Page 5

"But why does fabric need to breathe?" Dev asked, tilting his head. Gore chuckled. "Because if it doesn't, you'll get all sweaty inside! Imagine wearing a waterproof bag. That's no good, right?" Gore explained that he was trying to stretch PTFE, a type of plastic, into something thin and strong. "It's like trying to crack a code that no one can figure out!"

Gore demonstrated his machine, a complex array of gears and levers. "I've tried everything! Slow stretching, fast stretching...nothing works! It just breaks!" One day in 1969, frustrated, Gore yanked the PTFE rod with all his might. "Whoa!" he exclaimed. "It stretched almost 800%! A totally new form!"
Page 7

"It was a complete accident," Gore admitted, scratching his head. "But this new form was strong, porous, and waterproof!" Dev's eyes widened. "So that's how Gore-Tex was invented!" Gore smiled. "Precisely! Now, people could have breathable, waterproof clothing. It changed everything for outdoor adventures, even space travel! As Louis Pasteur said, 'Chance favors the prepared mind.' I was experimenting, but I was ready for the breakthrough."

Suddenly, the muddy field began to dissolve. Dev found himself back in his sleeping quarters on the space station. He quickly closed the Invention Encyclopedia. He ran back to Anika and Malik, his notebook clutched in his hand. "I know how Gore-Tex was invented!" he announced excitedly.

"Tell us!" Malik urged. Dev explained how Bob Gore's accidental discovery revolutionized waterproof and breathable fabrics. "Today, the Gore-Tex industry generates billions of dollars annually, protecting people from the elements around the world—even in space!" he exclaimed. Anika smiled, impressed. "That's incredible, Dev!"
Page 10

"So next time we're suiting up for a spacewalk," Dev said, grinning, "we can thank Bob Gore!" Malik laughed. "Definitely! Who knew a simple accident could lead to such an amazing invention?" Anika added, "And think of all the communication devices protected by Gore-Tex from moisture damage—we depend on that to connect with Earth!" To be continued...
