"It's all a bit much, isn't it?" Zola asked, watching a woman purchase a 'Summer Day' vial. Sakura sighed, shaking her head. "It wasn't always like this, Zola.

Before refrigeration, food spoiled quickly, and people suffered. Imagine trying to keep something cold in the middle of the sky!" Zola's eyes widened. "Wait a minute... who invented refrigeration? How did people survive before it existed?"

Where am I now?" she wondered, peering around at the vendors selling everything from fish to flowers. A man nearby shouted, "Fresh fish! Get your fresh fish! Before it spoils!" Zola noticed the fish were displayed on blocks of ice, slowly melting in the sun.

A man in a long coat hurried past, muttering, "If only there were a way to keep things cold longer!" Zola overheard and stepped in his way.

"What's the big deal about keeping things cold?" The man, surprised, stopped and sighed, "Spoilage, child! We lose so much food to spoilage! It causes illness and waste. Ice is expensive and melts quickly."

Mr. Beals smiled. "Indeed! I am Oliver Evans Beals, and I'm working on a method of artificial refrigeration." He gestured to a strange contraption with tubes and tanks. "It's based on the principles of vapor-compression," Mr. Beals explained. "It's not perfect, but it's a start. As Helen Keller said, 'Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.' I'm hoping to solve this food spoilage problem for everyone!"

Zola scribbled furiously in her notebook. "Vapor-compression... fascinating! But how does it work?" Mr. Beals pointed to a diagram.
Zola scribbled furiously in her notebook. "Vapor-compression... fascinating! But how does it work?" Mr. Beals pointed to a diagram. "The vapor compression cycle. The liquid refrigerant absorbs heat as it evaporates, cooling the chamber," he explained. "And the cooled chamber allows foods to stay fresh longer, preventing spoilage!" Zola's eyes lit up.
