"Brrr!" Sven shivered, watching the wind whip snow across the frozen tundra. His mom, Malik, wrapped a thick scarf tighter around his neck. "Why do we live so far north, Malik?" Sven asked, his breath clouding in the frigid air.

"Because your Aunt Ivan loves studying the Northern Lights!" Malik chuckled, pointing towards a shimmering green glow in the distance. "Besides, someone needs to invent a better way to keep our clothes closed in this weather! My button just popped off again!" Sven giggled, then asked, "Who even invented buttons, Malik? Or zippers? How did people keep their clothes together before that?"

Sven raced inside, his boots thumping on the wooden floor. He dashed towards his room, where a large, leather-bound book sat glowing on his shelf – his Magical Invention Encyclopedia. "I'm going to find out!" he shouted. He grabbed the book, and as he opened it, the room began to spin, swirling with colors.

Whoosh! Sven landed with a thump on a cobblestone street. He gasped, seeing horse-drawn carriages and people in long skirts and top hats bustling around him. A newspaper boy shouted, "Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Great Exhibition opens in London!" Sven checked his encyclopedia, "London, 1851! That's when Walter Hunt invented the safety pin!"

Suddenly, a tall man with a bushy mustache bumped into Sven, scattering papers everywhere. "Oh, I am so sorry, young lad!" the man exclaimed, kneeling to help Sven gather the papers. "I'm Walter Hunt, and I seem to be all thumbs today!" Sven's eyes widened. "Walter Hunt, the inventor?"

"Indeed! At your service," Walter replied, a twinkle in his eye. "I'm trying to solve a rather... pressing problem. Literally!" He chuckled, pulling out a bent piece of wire from his pocket. "People need a better way to fasten their clothes. Buttons break, laces come undone, and well... you can imagine the results!"

"But I owe 15 to a fellow and have no way to pay!" Walter groaned. "I need to invent something quickly to earn some money!" Sven asked, "So you're inventing the safety pin to pay off a debt?" Walter sighed. "Yes, but it's proving difficult. I can't seem to get the clasp to work correctly!"

Suddenly, Sven noticed a loose spring on the workbench. "What about using a spring to hold the point in place?" he suggested. Walter's eyes lit up. "Brilliant! Just like Archimedes said, 'Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world!' That little spring could be my fulcrum!" Walter quickly fashioned a small clasp with a spring. It worked! He had invented the safety pin! He patented it, selling the rights for only 400.

Poof! Sven was back in his room, the encyclopedia closed in his hands. He ran to Malik, who was still struggling with her coat. "Malik! I know how the safety pin was invented! It was to pay off a 15 debt!" He grabbed a safety pin from his desk and fastened her coat closed. "See? Problem solved!"

"Wow, Sven, that's amazing!" Malik said, hugging him tight. "And today, the global safety pin market generates over 40 million in revenue each year!" Sven exclaimed. He grinned, "Who knew such a small thing could make such a big difference?"
