Hansel, the clever boy, and Gretel, his kind sister, lived on the edge of the great Dream Railway, a track stretching between slumber and wakefulness. Their father, a humble signalman, toiled endlessly to keep the trains running on time, but a darkness crept into their home. The children, abandoned and lost, sought a way back, unaware of the gingerbread house and the witch's hungry gaze that awaited them deep within the whispering forest.

Hansel rummaged in his pockets and pulled out a handful of small, white pebbles. "We'll leave a trail, like Theseus in the labyrinth of Crete. 'Know thyself,' as Socrates said. If we know our path, we can find our way back."

As Agatha leaned in, Gretel shoved her into the fiery oven and slammed the door shut.
