Ingrid watched the swirling sand dance across the dunes. Felix adjusted his goggles, his face creased with concern. "It's getting harder to navigate these sandstorms," he muttered. "I wish we had a better way to harness the wind's energy around here!"

Ingrid frowned. "I wonder how people managed before we had electricity from solar panels and batteries, Felix. Imagine life without even a fan in this heat!" She pulled out her worn leather notebook and flipped through its pages. "Who even invented windmills? How did they evolve into wind turbines?"

Ingrid raced towards her room, the setting sun glinting off her copper hair. "I'm going to look it up in the Encyclopedia!" she exclaimed, bursting through the door. The ancient, leather-bound book sat on her shelf, glowing softly. As she touched its cover, the room dissolved in a swirl of golden light.

Ingrid and Felix found themselves standing in a vast, flat landscape dotted with simple wooden windmills. The year was 1750 in the Netherlands. An old farmer, struggling to lift a heavy sack of grain, groaned, "These windmills are life, but they're so inefficient! A strong gust can break 'em, and a calm day means no grinding."

Suddenly, Isla approached, carrying tools. "That's the trouble with this 'trusting the wind,'" Isla said, wiping sweat from her brow. She wore a simple dress and sturdy boots. "It's unreliable! We need something better." She pointed to a broken sail. "It would be great if we could capture more power without damaging the machinery or worrying about the machine slowing to a crawl."

Ingrid noticed a smaller, experimental windmill nearby. "What's that?" she asked, pointing to it. Isla explained, "That's John Smeaton's design. He's trying to improve windmill efficiency. He's a British civil engineer, you see. Smeaton is experimenting with different blade shapes to get the most power from the wind!"

"Smeaton discovered that windmills with a greater surface area facing the wind and sails angled at a certain degree were more efficient," Felix explained. "He tested different designs! He determined that sails angled at around 18 degrees produced the most power. The invention of windmills boosted the Dutch economy by tenfold."

Ingrid wrote furiously in her notebook. "But what about modern wind turbines? How did we get from wooden windmills to those huge metal ones?" Isla grinned. "Ah, now you're thinking about power! That happened because we understood how angles work in harnessing wind energy. The ability to move the turbine to follow the wind is the key!"

Back in her room, Ingrid closed the Encyclopedia. "Wow! From simple wooden sails to massive wind farms... It's all about capturing the wind's energy more efficiently," she said. "It's true what Leonardo da Vinci said: 'Water is the driving force of all nature.' The wind is too!"

Ingrid ran outside to Felix. "I learned so much! Modern wind turbines generate enough electricity to power millions of homes and even huge cities! Imagine the impact of not harnessing wind energy!" She pointed to the horizon. "And someday, maybe we can use even MORE efficient turbines to protect our oasis from these storms!"
